Alag Hai
My friend loves cricket.
He said,
We watched enough cricket on TV.
Look at the people cheering in the stadium.
We must go to the stadium.
We paid a premium.
Booked match tickets.
That too, a month in advance.
On the day of the match,
There was a shortage of cabs but we got a cab.
However, the cab driver made us wait for 15 minutes.
On arriving, the cab driver asked,
Are you going to watch a match?
We said, Yes.
He replied, ‘Then you are late’.
I wanted to tell him that we were late because of him.
My friend advised,
You should give feedback only to those,
Whom you really care about.
Somehow, he was sympathetic towards us.
He drove like Schumacher.
We arrived 15 minutes late.
There was a crowd outside the stadium.
We thought they were people who did not get tickets.
Assumptions are bad for business.
Soon we realized that they had tickets.
They were also trying to get inside.
After a bit of a struggle, we reached inside.
We got our seats, We made it!
There was a feeling of winning.
But it did not last for long.
We noticed some problems.
A pillar was blocking the view.
The Sun was shining and there was no shade.
It was hard to follow the game without any commentary.
Also, people were not cheering for the game.
They were cheering for the camera.
My friend said,
This is fun but,
Cricket is so much better on TV.
Since we had invested in buying the tickets.
We stayed put till the end of the match,
Even though we were not enjoying it.
In the world of decision making,
This bias is called Sunk Cost Fallacy.
Alag Nahin Hai
My friend had the same experience,
When he changed his job post pandemic.
