Q:Congratulations on your award! Can you tell us more about the specific achievement that earned you this recognition in the HR field?
A:I have been working with the Vedanta Group since Jun'21 primarily in the Talent and Organization Development domain. I would like to highlight two projects I am particularly proud of. One of the biggest projects that I took up was that of conceptualizing and instituting a Mining Academy for our Mining HEMM Operators. The Academy intends to develop skilled HEMM operators through rigorous curriculum of classroom training, simulator training, field training on equipment as well as behavioural training. The program was conceived to fulfil the growing need of skilled manpower in Underground Mechanized / Digital Mines. I was awarded a Quarterly Achievement award for this initiative.

I took up the role of Leadership Development in Jan'22, the need arose from the leadership as we did not have a focused vertical to enable the capacity enhancement of individuals to perform in the leadership roles within organization. This was an extremely challenging role as I was given the responsibility of conceptualizing the role from scratch, driving learning journey for 250+ leaders and streamlining the initiatives. I designed a Leadership and Succession Planning Framework as the first step. The framework was implemented in the form of a Talent Review Council which forms the foundation of the entire vertical. Talent Council which is chaired by the CEO has focused discussion on the succession plan, performance – potential matrix, 360 degree feedback, developmental needs and career path of leaders. The outcome of the discussion are IDPs, career movements and structured leadership roadmap. I have been leading this on-going initiative right from conceptualization to execution. I was awarded the coveted Chairman award in April'23 for this initiative.
Q:What motivated you to pursue a career in human resources, and how has your journey led you to this point of recognition?
A:My experience of working with committees and NGOs, during under graduation, helped me develop good interpersonal skills and team management capabilities. My first rendezvous with Management was when I was preparing for my final placements while simultaneously undergoing some business courses. What stood out for me was that people lie at the centre of every process and function, be it strategy, operations, finance or IT, thus human resource management is the backbone of any industry. I decided to pursue Human Resource Management with XLRI Jamshedpur wherein I got the opportunity to understand the different facets of HR and the linkage of the HR with business strategy. All the initiatives that I have undertaken so far have been with the thought as to how this will impact the top and the bottom line. Currently, I am closely working with the Vice Chairman of Vedanta, this stint has given me further insights into how Human Resource function can act as a true enabler for business, the practices, policies and interventions have to be truly in alignment with the organization's goals and objectives taking a very futuristic and proactive approach.
Q:In your experience, what qualities and skills are essential for HR professionals to succeed and make a positive impact in today's dynamic workplace environment?
A:For HR to act as a true enabler, it is imperative for the HR professionals to have a strong business understanding; a robust alignment with the business leaders is extremely necessary for the success of the Human Resource function. In addition to this, a necessary skill to possess in any dynamic workplace environment is to identify the right people for the right jobs, thus, it is extremely essential to keep oneself up to date with the latest trends and benchmarks in the market. With the ever-evolving digital landscape, it is imperative to identify the right tools and integrate the same across employee lifecycle. Lastly, the core skill that will set an individual apart in this profession is to have mastered the art of people connect and stakeholder management.
